Description
PURPOSE
We are a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization whose purpose is to positively impact the educational environment and living conditions of disadvantaged children, families, and seniors while incorporating eco-friendly processes.
VISION
Brighten A Life will aim to change the lives of students, families, and community members through it’s unique service projects. The projects will unite communities and impact many.
We hope to inspire a new generation of community-conscious individuals dedicated to public service, education, the environment and helping others.
AREAS OF CONCERN
Environment. Children. Education. Childcare.
Poverty. Community. Revitalization. Seniors.
KIDS
More than eight percent of Phoenix area families are single-parent households. Many of these hard working mothers and fathers are not able to provide after-school care for their children. Our projects will aim to provide Green Schoolhouses facilities that will be an inviting place for children to attend after school. The programs will focus on education, community enrichment, and will be a compelling source for childcare.
PRE-TEENS
Only 34 percent of eighth-grade students from low-income communities graduate high school. These students suffer from a lack of self-esteem, motivation and guidance, potentially leading to a life of crime and poverty. Our Green Schoolhouses will host programs that offer a chance to break out of this cycle. Studies have shown that children who attend after-school programs are less likely to use drugs, have higher attendance rates and show improvement in school performance.
SCHOOLS
The Green Schoolhouse Series seeks to build sustainable structures that maximize a student’s learning experience. Research shows that green facilities have a positive impact on student learning. For example, using natural daylight not only lowers energy costs, it also increases student performance by five-to-ten percent. Additionally, the improved air quality from eco-friendly products results in less student illnesses. Our Green Schoolhouses create a healthy, welcoming environment for both students and staff to keep the focus on learning.
ENVIRONMENT
Climate change and human impact on the environment have become important issues during the past decade. Brighten A Life believes environmental quality is an essential part of building a happy, healthy community and therefore continues to support eco-friendly ventures.
LOW-INCOME FAMILIES
Thirteen and a half percent of Arizona families live below the poverty line. These members of our community struggle to maintain their homes, put food on the table, while trying to provide opportunities for their children. Brighten A Life targets this demographic and works to relieve the burdens experienced by these families.
COMMUNITIES
Brighten A Life seeks to restore and renew communities through our service projects. Community members can see an immediate impact in their area whether it is through the restoration of a neighbor’s home or the building of an eco-friendly schoolhouse for their children to attend. The volunteers, materials, planning and project recipients all come from your background, enriching your community by bringing everyone together.
SENIORS
Seniors are essential to the success of many after-school programs hosted at the Green Schoolhouse facilities. Without their willingness to volunteer, students across the valley would be deprived of their valuable services as mentors, tutors, program administrators and advisors. Without them, many of our programs would not be possible. In addition, our service projects also give back to this segment of our community. We help seniors restore their homes and lift pressing burdens through our Together We Paint program.
